Book Fair Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed to staff the Book Fair on Monday 10/18 from 11:00am to 1:00pm and on Tuesday 10/19 from 9:00am to 7:00pm. Please contact Jennifer Thelen at jthelen@mywdo.com if you can help.

Label Night

Tonight (9/28) is our first "label night" of the year. This is when we process our Box Tops, milk caps, etc. Help is needed from 5:30PM - 7:00pm in the Media Center. Pizza will be provided.

Reading Garden Update

In case you weren’t aware, Kennedy has received a $2,500 grant from Home Depot for the construction of a Reading Garden. The space is located on the back side of the school where there is already a burm with birch trees. We had originally planned on holding “work nights” this week (Tue, Wed & Thu) but that schedule has been changed.

The two contractors that will be assisting us will meet us in front of the school this Wednesday, June 9th, at 6:00 P.M.to look over the site and plan a course of action. Kennedy community members are invited to attend.

Following the meeting, I’ll post further updates to the blog.

July 4th Parade

Your PTA has committed to having a float in the St. Joseph July 4th parade - we need volunteers to sign-up now to help construct the float and/or participate in the parade. If you can help with either (or both!) please contact Diane or Patti as soon as possible.

Three Things to Cover

At this month's meeting, we will be voting on a new vendor - Lifetouch - for our school photos. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.

We would like to have a Kennedy float in the St. Joseph July 4th parade but we need volunteers to step forward now! If you can help with the assembly of the float in early July and/or participate during the parade, please let myself or Patti know before May 20. If we do not get enough volunteers, there will be no float.

We have been successful with the Chip Shoppe fundraisers but are always open to your input and ideas regarding them. If you have any suggestions for the Fundraiser committee, please write them down and drop them in the office.

Your PTA Needs You!

At our April 15 meeting, we will be choosing committee leaders for next school year. We have a number of folks who will be returning to the positions they held this year but we also need new volunteers. All committees are open to having co-chairs - but even if you're a new volunteer heading up a committee, be assured you'll have the support and insight of the other leaders. Please consider volunteering for one of the following positions:
  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Events (spring dance & bingo night)
  • Labels (submitting Box Tops, Food Club, etc)
  • Membership (coordinating discount card)
  • Newsletter
  • Reflections Program
  • Kennedy Reading Incentive Store
  • Book Fair (fall Scholastic and spring used)
  • Yearbook

Used Book Fair

We're in the early stages of planning a spring Used Book Fair. Start gathering your unwanted books now - we'll be sending a request for them in May.
Books will be sold at a very reasonable price to help fund our PTA activities.

Bingo Night

Our first ever Kennedy Bingo Night is March 19 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Admission is $1 per person (with a maximum of $5 per family). We'll play 20 games and have great prizes for the winners! Concessions will be available.

Fish Fry Fundraiser

Kennedy Community School will be holding an all-you-can-eat Fish Fry on Saturday, Feb 13, 2010 from 5:00-7:30 at the St. Joseph American Legion.
Tickets can be purchased from our Kennedy School Office or at the door.
Adults: $7.00 Kids (10 and under): $5.00
Money raised from this event will help fund Kennedy’s 7th & 8th grade baseball team.

Presentations and Monthly Meeting This Week

This Thursday, 1/21, we'll have the presentation of our Reflections program entries and awards at 6:00PM.

Following that, we'll have a brief overview presentation of the Minnesota Reading Corps program.

We'll then move to our regular monthly meeting.

Yearbook Photos Needed !

Parents, guardians, staff and students are invited to contribute photos to our two yearbooks (PreK-5th and 6th-8th). Photos need to be delivered no later than Feb. 12. Please submit photos via disk in the office. Both books will be available for $10.
